History Room

The History Room is accessed off the Reading Room. It is a secure and quiet space for looking at original records and heritage material.
Please bring photo ID and something with your address on it to register.

If you can’t get to the Reading Room in Hobart, ask your local library if they can get the item in for you.

Order archival items using Tasmanian Archives search

Items stored offsite will be available for viewing the following day

Retrievals are every half hour from 9.45am, with the last retrieval 45 minutes before closing.

National Archives of Australia

Access Commonwealth records from the Hobart office of the National Archives of Australia

You will find their staff in the History Room from Wednesday to Friday
