What can I find in the Library Catalogue?

The Library Catalogue tab searches all lending, reference, heritage and digital collections in Libraries Tasmania.

Exact phrase search

If you want to search for an exact phrase, surround the phrase with double quotation marks, for example “slow cooking” will search for results in which the words slow and cooking appear next to each other.

Excluding a word from your search

Use “-” (minus) to exclude a word from your search. For example, diet -keto

Restricting your search by collection type

Use the Everything drop-down list on the search bar to limit your search to a specific collection, e.g. eMusic.

Narrowing your search by author, title, series or subject

You can use All fields drop-down list to limit your search to author, title, series or subject.

Filtering your search results

The filters on the left can be used to limit your search results.

Categories can be expanded by clicking the + icon and collapsed by clicking the – icon.

Tick the checkbox(es) and click the Select button to limit your search or click Ignore to remove records from your results.

If you only want to select one limit, just click on the word.

Sorting your search results

The default sort for all results is by relevance.

If your results are less than 1000 titles you can re-sort by Year, Title or Author.

Your library account

How do I log in?

When you are in our catalogue, you will see Log In at the top of the screen.

Logging in gives you access to My Account, My Lists and the ability to place a hold.

How do I change my password/PIN?

Log into My Account, go to Personal Information and you will see Change Password/PIN.

I’ve forgotten my password/PIN

You will need your membership/library card number. Click on Log In at the top of the screen, then click on Forgotten Your Password/PIN? Follow the prompts and a recovery link will be sent to the email address in your library record.

How do I renew my library membership?

Most library memberships need to be renewed every 2 years so that we have the most up to date contact details for you. When you are logged into My Account, you will see Requires Renewal in the Personal Information section and the Renew now button next to it.

If the Renew now option is not available, please contact any of our libraries and staff will assist you in renewing your membership.

How do I change my contact details?

Log into My Account, go to Personal Information and you will either see Update contact details which will allow you to update your details right away, or you will see Change your contact details which will open a form for you to complete and submit to the library.

What fees does the library charge?

Libraries Tasmania does not charge overdue fines. However, if you have lost or damaged an item, we’ll ask you to pay a fair replacement cost based on the item’s age and condition.

How do I pay for a lost or damaged book?

Log into My Account and go to Fees and charges. Any charges that you have will be listed there and can be paid for by credit card. You will be able to print an invoice.

Manage My Account preferences, including default tab and holds pickup

When you are logged into My Account, you can change your default tab; preferred list; preferred pickup location (for holds) and your mailing list preferences. In My Account, go to the Personal Information section and expand Preferences.

Loans

Where can I see my loans?

Log into My Account and click on the Loans tab.

How do I renew my loans?

Log into My Account, go to the Loans tab, tick the checkbox next to the title/s you want to renew and click the Renew button.

Why can’t I renew my loans?

If a title you have out on loan has a hold on it, you will not be able to renew it.

If a loan does not have a hold on it, it can be renewed up to 2 times.

Why can’t I see all my loans?

If your loan is overdue by 3 weeks, then it will be assumed lost and will move from the Loans tab to the Fees and Charges tab. However, as soon as you return the item, the fee will be cleared.

Holds

How many holds can I place?

You can have up to 15 holds on physical items.

How do I place a hold?

Search our catalogue for the item you want to place a hold on. In the search results, click the Place Hold button next to the item.

How do I place a hold on several items at once?

You can place a hold on multiple items: once you have the search results, select the box next to the titles you want to place a hold on, then go to the Select an Action drop-down menu and select Place Hold(s).

How long do I have to collect my hold from the library?

We will let you know when your hold is ready to borrow from your local library. You have 14 days to collect it.

How do I change my pickup library?

When you are placing a hold, you can change the pickup library at that point.

If you want your pickup library to be different from your home library, log into My Account, go to Personal Information, expand Preferences and change Preferred Pickup Location.

Why can’t I place a hold?

This is usually because it is a reference title that cannot be borrowed from the library. Many reference titles can be sent to your local library so that you can view it there – talk to your local library to arrange this.

How do I suspend a hold so that it doesn’t arrive when I’m away?

Log into My Account, go to the Holds tab, select the hold(s) then select Edit/Suspend Hold(s) and there you can enter the date range covering the period that you’re away.

How do I undo my hold suspension?

Log into My Account, go to the Holds section, select the hold(s) then select Cancel Hold Suspension(s).

How do I cancel a hold?

Log into My Account, go to the Holds section, select the hold(s) then select Cancel Hold(s).

My Lists

How do I access My Lists?

When you are in our catalogue, My Lists is at the very top of the screen. Click on My Lists and a new window will open. If you are already logged in, you will see your Temporary List and saved lists.

How does a Temporary List work?

The list of titles in your Temporary List will be cleared out when you log out or if you are not logged in and there has been no activity in the browser for 10 minutes.

How do I create a list?

Log into My Account and open My Lists (at the top of the screen). On the left-hand-side of the screen, click or tap the icon with a plus sign.

How do I delete a list?

Log into My Account and open My Lists (at the top of the screen). On the left-hand-side of the screen, tick the box next to the list you want to delete, then click or tap the icon with a minus sign.

How do I add a record to My Lists?

In the search results, tick the box next to the item(s), then go up to Select an Action and select Add to My Lists from the drop-down menu. If you are not logged in, this will add it to a temporary list, if you are logged in, you will be able to choose the list you want to add it to.

How do I change my preferred list?

Log into My Account, go to Personal Information, expand Preferences and change Preferred List. The next time you go to add an item to a list from your search results, this will be the selected list.

Your library account

How do I log in?

When you are in our catalogue, tap the hamburger menu at the right and select Log In.

Logging in gives you access to My Account, My Lists and the ability to place a hold.

How do I change my password/PIN?

Log into My Account, go to Personal Information and you will see Change Password/PIN.

Log into My Account, tap on Loans then Library Loans. Tap on Renew Checkouts, select the title/s you want to renew and tap the Renew button. You can also tap the 3 dots to the right of the title you want to renew and tap Renew.

My Lists

How do I access My Lists?

When you are in our catalogue, tap on the hamburger menu at the right and select My Lists. If you are already logged in, you will see your Temporary List and saved lists.

The list of titles in your Temporary List will be cleared out when you log out or if you are not logged in and there has been no activity in the browser for 10 minutes.

How do I create a list?

How do I delete a list?

Log into My Account, tap on the hamburger menu at the right and select My Lists. Use the drop-down menu to select the list you want to delete, then tap the three dots on the right and select Remove List.

How do I add a record to My Lists?

In the search results, tap the three dots next to the item and select Add to My Lists. If you are not logged in, this will add it to a temporary list. If you are logged in, it will add it to the list that you currently have set as Preferred List.

How do I change my preferred list?

Log into My Account, go to Personal Information, expand Preferences and change Preferred List. The next time you go to add an item to a list from your search results, this will be the selected list.
