3. Policy statement

Libraries Tasmania connects Tasmanians to knowledge, ideas and community in environments that are inclusive and safe. Visitor and staff safety is our highest priority and everyone using our spaces should feel safe and respected. Libraries Tasmania staff support this by:

  • Informing and assisting visitors to understand acceptable conduct.
  • Enforcing rules fairly, respectfully, and positively.
  • Exercising their authority to direct a person to leave a site, enforce temporary bans or apply other access restrictions.
  • Reporting concerns for a child’s safety or concerns of potential abuse.
  • Adhering to Libraries Tasmania Service Commitment and Client Diversity and Inclusion Policy.

A visitor’s conduct or behaviour is unacceptable if it:

  • Causes harm to others,
  • Puts children and other people at risk of harm or abuse,
  • Risks damage to Libraries Tasmania’s property or another person’s belongings.

This Policy is guided by the Libraries Regulations 2022 and Archives Regulations 2014.

The Archives Regulations 2014 prescribes specific rules around viewing and handling original records and materials from our heritage collections.
