The ongoing development of the Tasmanian heritage collections and Community Archives relies heavily on donor-initiated offers. Any individual or Tasmanian organisation can donate material.
Libraries Tasmania (Tasmanian Archives) welcomes offers of material that
- contributes to Tasmania’s history and
- helps to fill gaps in our collections.
Our priorities include:
- records of Tasmanian businesses, community organisations, churches and other groups
- letters, diaries, photos or other documents belonging to individuals or families living in Tasmania
- unpublished or published creative writing by Tasmanians or set in Tasmania
- Tasmanian photographs, prints or original works of art that document Tasmania’s history
- published or unpublished material on Antarctica and the whaling and sealing industries.
Making an offer of collection material
Potential donors are encouraged to complete an online collection offers form so that the material on offer can be assessed. Please contact us first – we do not accept unsolicited donations.
If you are unsure if your records are significant, please contact us on (03) 6165 5443 or communityarchives@libraries.tas.gov.au before you discard, destroy or separate them.
Accepted donations are managed by individual deposit agreements negotiated with the donor. These agreements establish conditions under which material can be accessed by the public.
If your materials do not meet our collecting objectives, we can help you find other places that may be interested in your donation. We do not accept items sent on approval.
