5. Reporting child abuse or safety concerns

If a child or young person is at immediate risk and/or requires urgent police or medical assistance phone Triple Zero 000.

Library staff have a legal and departmental obligation to take reasonable precautions to prevent abuse, including child sexual abuse, and to report any concerns about the safety, wellbeing, abuse or neglect of a child or young person. All staff with concerns about child abuse, including harmful sexual behaviour, must follow the Step by Step Guidance for Concerns, Information and Incidents of Child Abuse.

Staff will also report any concerns about the conduct of another worker in relation to children and young people.

Staff are not required to tell parents that they will make, or have made, a report to ARL.
