2.8 Safeguarding children
Libraries Tasmania upholds the Department for Education, Children and Young People’s (DECYP) values—connection, courage, growth, respect and responsibility. These values reinforce our commitment to safe library spaces, including our responsibility for safeguarding children supporting the department to meet the Universal Principle and Child and Youth Safe Standards (Standards 1 and 8).
If children will be attending, the hirer must follow Libraries Tasmania Safeguarding Children Policy and ensure appropriate supervision, including obtaining parent/carer consent if needed.
It is recommended that room hirers complete the complete the15-minute DECYP Safeguarding Training for volunteers and service providers video.
Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP)
Meeting room hirers who are not directly taking part in delivering a Libraries Tasmania service or program do not require a RWVP. However, site managers must still assess risks to children and vulnerable people.
