2.2 Intended use


Applicants must state the purpose of the room hire on the Meeting Room Hire Application Form including whether the room will be used for a private activity or an activity open to the public. Room hire for public events are subject to additional considerations to maintain safe and inclusive spaces.


2.2.1 Room use restrictions

All hires (private or public)Hire applications will not be approved if the intended use:
  • may disrupt staff, library operations, or visitors
  • risks damage to, or misuse of facilities or collections
  • may harm the reputation of Libraries Tasmania, DECYP, or the State Government
  • involves retail sales, commercial profit-making, or similar ventures
  • includes the sale of alcohol
  • is for a social event such as a birthday party or family gathering
Public activity hire onlyHire applications will not be approved if the intended use:
  • is inconsistent with Libraries Tasmania’s commitment to safe and inclusive spaces
  • constitutes an unlawful gathering or promotes harm, discrimination, or exclusion
  • is for partisan political activities or religious instruction/services/ceremonies
  • is to lobby or advocate on politically or community-sensitive matters
