7. Definitions


Child or Children

Includes anyone under the age of 18 (DECYP Safeguarding Framework definition)

Commercial users

Individuals or businesses involved in commercial ventures where goods and/or services are sold by the operator for profit.

Community users

Individuals or community groups where there is generally little or no cost for service. Includes not-for-profit organisations.

Meeting room

A designated room or space available for public hire located on Libraries Tasmania property. See Meeting rooms for hire – Libraries Tasmania.

Not-for-profit organisations

An organisation whose activities do not generate profit and are generally run by volunteers.

Private use

Activities and events limited to invited attendees. Examples include clubs, book groups, training sessions, workshops.

Public use

Activities and events open to the general public. Examples include public lectures, talks, panel discussions, community advocacy, cultural celebrations.

Risk assessment

Identification, analysis, assessment, prioritisation and management of risks. It is the coordinated allocation and prioritisation of resources to minimise, monitor, communicate and control risk likelihood and/or consequences, or to maximise the realisation of opportunities.

Site manager

The individual responsible for the specific site or local service. This means the four regional Manager Library Operations and the Manager, State Library and Archives Service.

Young person or young people

In the context of this document, any reference to a young person or young people has the same meaning as a child or children.
