5 January 2026
Libraries Tasmania is bringing the excitement these school holidays with a jam-packed program of free activities across the state in January.
From creative workshops to page-turning adventures in the Big Summer Read, there is something for everyone!
Here’s a taste of what’s on:
- Create your own graphic story with Alyssa Bermudez, the Big Summer Read ambassador.
- Console gaming and board game meetups.
- Zine making and writer’s club.
- Design your own bookmark and Libraries Tasmania book bag.
- Craft a skep (traditional straw beehive) and visit The Histori of Bees exhibition.
Bring your friends and make the library your summer hangout. Or join the library to borrow books; play and borrow console games like PlayStation, Xbox and Switch; or explore the eLibrary.
Executive Director, Libraries Tasmania, Patrick Gregory said: “Summer is all about fun and discovery. The Big Summer Read brings that energy into our libraries, inspiring kids and teens to learn something new, explore new worlds inside a book and find new ways to stay entertained over the break.”
The Big Summer Read is a free reading club for anyone up to 18 years old. You can:
- track your reading
- write book reviews and have them published
- take on reading-related challenges
- and win great prizes!
The school holiday program runs from Monday 12 January to Sunday 1 February 2026. All events are free to book.
