The State Library and Archives of Tasmania is pleased to welcome applications for the 2026 Fellowships from interested individuals.
The 2026 fellowship program includes:
- One Research Fellowship valued at $10,000.
- One Aboriginal Fellowship valued at $10,000.
- Two Writing Fellowships each valued at $5,000.
Tasmanian researchers and writers are encouraged to apply.
Applications open on Friday 28 November 2025 and close at 5:00 pm on Friday 6 February 2026.
The fellowship program supports those keen to explore and engage with the rich State Library and Archives of Tasmania collections.
The Research and Aboriginal Fellowships foster new study and the opportunity to share the outcome through the State Library and Archives of Tasmania Engagement Program.
The Writing Fellowships are offered in partnership with Island Magazine andsupport two writers to each produce a piece of creative writing.
Libraries Tasmania Executive Director, Patrick Gregory, said: “The State Library and Archives of Tasmania holds the memories, stories, and identity of our state. Our internationally significant collections include UNESCO-listed convict records, books, photographs, maps, artworks, newspapers, and extensive government and community archives.
The Fellowships provide an extraordinary opportunity to research, write, and create new works that illuminate Tasmania’s past and inspire its future.”
Eligibility requirements for applicants:
- Must primarily reside in Tasmania.
- Must be aged 18 or over.
- Must be able to attend an in-person induction at the State Library and Archives of Tasmania in Hobart.
