3.7 Centrelink Newstart Allowance
Libraries Tasmania supports volunteers who are job seekers receiving Newstart / Job Seeker Allowance, to count volunteer hours towards their Centrelink ‘mutual obligation’ activity.
However, volunteering opportunities for participants in this program are based on the needs of the organisation and at the discretion of the local manager.
Volunteers who wish to count volunteer hours towards their ‘mutual obligation’ activity should present the official Centrelink form for the local coordinator or manager to complete on behalf of the business unit.
For proof of hours of participation, volunteers may request copies of time sheets and/or an official letter from the local coordinator.
Libraries Tasmania does not to enter into arrangements under the Australian Government’s Work for the Dole program, in accordance with advice from the department’s Workplace Relations Unit.
