3.2 Criteria for decision-making

Program and event proposals must meet all following criteria. They must:

  • be aligned with Libraries Tasmania’s Strategic Directions and focus areas
  • connect people to Libraries Tasmania’s services, collections and spaces
  • be relevant to community needs and interests – includes current community, societal, or cultural celebrations such as NAIDOC Week, National Simultaneous Storytime and Get Online Week
  • meet need where programs are not available from other providers
  • be deliverable within available budget, staffing capability and resources.

Libraries Tasmania will not engage in programs and events that:

  • include content that promotes illegal activities, is defamatory, discriminatory (as defined by the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998) or seeks to petition, fundraise, lobby or exert political party influence
  • seek to enlist participants in political or religious groups
  • are commercial or are for the solicitation of business *
  • are outside existing budget and staffing resources.

Libraries Tasmania has the right to hold or cancel a program or event at its discretion.

* Individuals from creative industries such as authors and other creators of literary, musical or artistic works who Libraries Tasmania engages with to deliver a program or event, may seek permission from the relevant Libraries Tasmania Manager (or delegate) to sell their creative works as part of a program or event. However, Libraries Tasmania staff must not be involved in the sale of such items other than those available through the Allport Museum Shop.
