3. Policy Statement

Libraries Tasmania supports the vision for all Tasmanians to be connected, resilient, creative and curious thinkers, enriched by the State’s libraries and archives by offering programs and events that:

  • expand Libraries Tasmania’s role as a community resource providing opportunities for information, learning and community engagement
  • introduce members, users and non-users to library and archive services, collections and resources, in particular those from traditionally under-served groups
  • ensure equity and contribute to an inclusive society
  • contribute to the public awareness of Libraries Tasmania as a significant cultural institution.

Aligned to the ALIA/APLA Standards and Guidelines for Australian Public Libraries, our programs and events leverage our collections, resources, knowledge and expertise to enrich the lives of participants and deliver benefits to communities. Programs and events are designed and delivered in line with our commitment for all users to see themselves, their interests and lifestyles reflected in our programs, services, spaces and collections.

We adhere to cultural safety guidelines outlined by National and State Libraries Australia, to ensure Tasmanian Aboriginal people feel emotionally safe and supported in our spaces, programs and events.

Libraries Tasmania supports and endorses the ALIA Free access to information statement and applies this intent to programs and events.
