Event Description

Arianne James: Shedding skins creative writing workshop.

Explore the art of storytelling through folklore, myth and the uncanny in this creative writing workshop with acclaimed Tasmanian author Arianne James. Shedding Skins invites young writers to discover the core elements of story-building, develop their creative practice, and experiment with techniques inspired by folklore, transformation and strange tales. Through guided exercises and discussion, participants will gain tools to create compelling characters, settings and narratives of their own.

Arianne James is a Hobart-based writer whose work has appeared in Grieve, Backstory, Other Terrain, Corvid Queen and Voices of the Southern Ocean. A graduate of the University of Tasmania and the Faber Writing Academy, she has undertaken writing residencies across Australia and internationally, and has been shortlisted for several literary awards. Arianne also hosts The Book Shelf on Edge Radio and runs Once Upon a Bookclub at Fullers Bookshop. Her debut novel, Daughters of the Tide, was published by HQ/HarperCollins in May 2026.

Ages 12-17.
