Researching your school’s history

Libraries Tasmania has many resources that can help you learn about and celebrate the history of your school. These primary and secondary resources can also be used to support the Australian Curriculum. This guide is an overview of what’s available, and leads to more specific information on how to find each type of record for your school.

A great place to start is published works like newsletters, school magazines, yearbooks, histories and newspaper articles

It’s always exciting to to look at early photographs of your school or school activities. We also have many building plans of schools, some of which are online.

We have many primary source records that are only found in our archives. These can be viewed and sometimes copied at our Reading Room at 91 Murray Street Hobart. They include school admission registers, teacher applications and inspectors reports.
