Upcoming works at Hobart’s State Library and Archives Building

Libraries Tasmania is revitalising the ground floor of the State Library and Archives Building at 91 Murray Street, Hobart.

Work will start on Wednesday 8 May and is expected to be completed by Spring 2024.

The ground floor will be a gateway to the building’s cultural institutions and a contemporary space for public use. The space will be more accessible and functional with improved areas for reading, studying and socialising.

State Library of Tasmania, Tasmanian Archives and Hobart Library services will continue throughout the building work. The Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts will be closed.

Access to services will look different during the development – we will keep you updated.

The building carpark will remain closed. Free one hour parking is available across the road at Hobart Central Car Park at 60 Melville Street, Hobart.
