New Spanish/Español language collection

An exciting new Spanish/Español language collection launched

Libraries Tasmania has launched an exciting new Spanish/Español language collection in partnership with the Latin American Cultural Association of Tasmania (LACAT).

The Spanish/Español collection is open to all library members statewide. Located at Hobart Library, it features a lively mix of books for children and adults.

Created in partnership with LACAT, the collection reflects the Association’s strong support for Tasmania’s Spanish-speaking community. LACAT generously contributed both community funds and culturally important Spanish-language books for everyone to enjoy at Libraries Tasmania.

On Saturday 31 January 2026, Hobart Library staff welcomed around 100 community members to a fiesta celebrating the launch. The vibrant cultural event brought Spanish language, music, dancing and storytelling into the heart of the library.

Libraries Tasmania acknowledges LACAT’s support of the Spanish-speaking community through fundraising and their commitment to providing Spanish language materials statewide.

This initiative supports our strategic aim to grow collections in culturally and linguistically diverse languages. Libraries Tasmania is committed to lifelong learning, literacy and inclusion.
