Explore NAIDOC Week at your local library
Libraries around Tasmania are celebrating the rich and diverse cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders during NAIDOC Week 7–14 July 2024.
Celebrate this NAIDOC Week with:
- Aboriginal Storytime and Rock and Rhyme sessions
- Book Chats featuring Aboriginal authors and illustrators
- movie screenings from the Beamafilm collection highlighting Aboriginal films and filmmakers
- eBooks and eAudiobooks in your pocket eLibrary.

South
- Glenorchy Library – Aboriginal children’s stories on the yarning mat and beautiful artwork from Aboriginal artist Reuben Oates.
- Rosny Library – Sea Country Cultural Pop Up family session with games, crafts and activities focusing on Tasmanian Aboriginal culture on Monday 15 July.
- Huonville Library – listen to a We Love Country reading for children, and a craft session with Story Necklaces and Bracelets.
- Kingston Library – NAIDOC Week Storytime or a Rock and Rhyme session.
North
- Launceston Library – We Love Country Storytime session featuring Aboriginal authors and stories.
- Kinimathatakinta/George Town Library – We Love Country Rock and Rhyme session.
- Launceston Library – two Tasmanian Bush Foods experiences, one for children in Grades 4–8 on Monday 15 July from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm; and an evening for all ages on Monday 15 July from 5:30 – 7:00 pm. Both sessions are hosted by Tasmanian Aboriginal chef and entrepreneur Kitana Mansell, Project Coordinator for Palawa Kipli.
North West
- Queenstown and Zeehan Library staff – NAIDOC morning tea.
- Queenstown Library – short films will be on display that depict cultural practices, fire management, bushcraft and shelters, dance, and biography.
- Smithton Library – NAIDOC Week Rock and Rhyme, Storytime, a Rhythm Stick Workshop and a school holiday Dreamtime Creations activity.
- Burnie Library – NAIDOC Week Nature Craft activity.
- All libraries – “Sea of Hands” art and craft creation.
