Expressions of interest are being called for members of the Tasmanian Library Advisory Board (TLAB) for a three-year term. The term of appointment is 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2027.
About Libraries Tasmania
Libraries Tasmania is comprised of the State Library and Archives of Tasmania (including the Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts), 46 public libraries, the Risdon Prison Library and the Office of the State Archivist.
Our goal is for every Tasmanian to be connected with reading and ideas, and our histories and cultures, in welcoming, safe, inclusive spaces. We support literacy and learning and share Tasmanian stories.
For more information, see our Strategic Directions 2024 – 2027.
Role of TLAB
TLAB is established under the Libraries Act 1984 to provide the Minister for Education with objective, community-based advice on issues concerning the delivery of library services in Tasmania. TLAB’s interest extends to lifelong learning, adult literacy and the State’s archival and heritage collections and services.
TLAB membership
TLAB membership reflects the interests of library users and covers a mix of urban, rural and local government representation. Members must reflect a wide range of backgrounds, interests and involvements. Meetings are held four times a year, mostly in Hobart.
Libraries Tasmania supports, recognises and celebrates diversity.
Members are not paid sitting fees; however, they are entitled to payment of reasonable, actual expenses while undertaking the duties of their role.

Interested applicants should express their interest in membership by outlining their qualifications, experience and suitability for the role.
Expressions of interest should be emailed to the Executive Director Libraries Tasmania by Monday, 7 October 2024 to: execdirector.libraries@libraries.tas.gov.au
