Ground floor at 91 Murray Street Hobart receives commendation

At the 2025 Tasmania Architecture Awards, the State Library and Archives of Tasmania foyer revitalisation project (Ground Floor, 91 Murray Street Hobart, Tasmania) was recognised with a Commendation for Interior Architecture.

The redeveloped space at 91 Murray Street was designed by LIMINAL Spaces and built by VOS Construction. It reopened in October 2024.

LIMINAL Spaces retained the heritage aspects of the 1962 building while creating a modern and welcoming space.

The foyer now includes the beautiful artwork ‘Tunapri/Knowledge’ by Tasmanian First Nations artist Caleb Nichols-Mansell. You can also sit and watch Tasmanian stories on our mega sized media wall!

The jury commented that ‘This project demonstrates admirable heritage sensitivity and restraint, respecting the original 1962 design by John Scarborough while enhancing its spatial clarity.’
