Continuing works at Hobart’s State Library and Archives Building

Libraries Tasmania is updating the Ground Floor at 91 Murray Street, Hobart.

Stage 2 of building works is expected to begin on Monday 19 August.

During this time, entry to the building will be on Bathurst Street. Signs will direct you to this temporary entrance and the lift.

Due to the works, there may be times when only the stairs are available.

Library returns can be made at the new returns chute on Bathurst Street. The returns chute will be available 24/7. Clients can also return items at Hobart Library.

The Ground Floor will be a gateway to the building’s cultural institutions and a contemporary space for public use. The space will be more accessible and functional with improved areas for reading, studying and socialising.

Work will be completed in Spring 2024.

The State Library of Tasmania, Tasmanian Archives and Hobart Library services are open. The Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts is closed.

The building carpark is closed. Free one hour parking is available across the road at Hobart Central Car Park at 60 Melville Street, Hobart.
