Youth Speak Out is an annual education initiative run by Reconciliation Tasmania since 2018 celebrating the next generation’s views on Aboriginal affairs. Tasmanian students from Years 5–12 enter art, multimedia, speeches, letters, poems, or whole class projects expressing students’ views about Reconciliation. In partnership with Libraries Tasmania this exhibition presents work from 2018–2023 and will tour various libraries around the state.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2023 was: Be a Voice for Generations. Every year the NRW theme is what Youth Speak Out entrants respond to. This year’s theme encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise.

Young people across Lutruwita/Tasmania have been doing just that for the last six years by entering Youth Speak Out

“This picture represents traditional Aboriginal art. We used colours that represent the earth.
The hands are reaching out to us.”
