This talk will trace the work in progress of State Library of Tasmania Creative Fellowship recipient Margaret Woodward. Margaret will share her pathways towards creating a new work for the State Library including artefacts found and strategies used while undertaking research in the archives. Particular focus will be on the Port Arthur Semaphore Code dictionary, the challenges of re-visiting the code language through a contemporary lens and the potential for re-activating communication systems using flags, numerals and messages.
