3. Scope
This Policy is underpinned by Libraries Tasmania Strategic Directions 2024-2027 and applies to:
- Items that have met criteria used to evaluate whether an item qualifies for long-term preservation including:
- digital archives transferred from Tasmanian Government agencies
- digital archives collected from non-government sources
- digital material published in Tasmania classed as Legal Deposit that is not collected through the collaborative National e-deposit service (NED), such as harvested websites, games, film, video or sound recordings
- digital content that is acquired into the State Library and Archives of Tasmania permanent collection, including heritage and Allport collection.
- Digital master files (high quality digital versions) of collection items created for preservation purposes including digital master files of non-digital items (including paper-based, audiovisual, and other analogue materials).
This Policy does not apply to:
- temporary digital derivative files of collection items made to facilitate or improve access
- Libraries Tasmania’s lending and reference collections
- items collected by national collecting institutions – e.g. websites and digital publications preserved by the National Library of Australia
- material created by Libraries Tasmania which are not intended for long-term preservation
