Media Release
19 May 2025
Libraries Tasmania is celebrating National Volunteer Week from 19 May to 25 May 2025 to recognise the incredible work volunteers do each year.
Volunteers in Tasmania’s public libraries make an estimated in-kind contribution of 30,000 hours of support to library visitors.
They provide digital and IT support, deliver books for the Home Library Service, help deliver our public programs, support family history research and assist adults with literacy and numeracy skills.
To show our appreciation, Libraries Tasmania will feature volunteer profiles on our social media channels from Monday 19 to Friday 23 May during Volunteer Week.
“I love that you can support someone in the community to find a better life … within the supportive environment that the library offers. [Volunteering] is a fantastic opportunity to … make a small contribution towards positive changes in society.” – Lea, a volunteer Literacy Tutor at Hobart Library.
“It is a great opportunity to feel helpful and useful. Everyone is friendly. I have been volunteering for over 10 years.” Maria, a volunteer at the Tasmanian Archives.
View the profiles on the Libraries Tasmania Facebook or Instagram page to find out more.
