Temporary library services for the Burnie community

Media Release
11 September 2024

In response to the extended closure of Burnie Library there are alternative ways for the Burnie community to access library services.

This includes a pop-up library at Burnie Regional Museum, extended opening hours at Penguin Library and children’s programs at Burnie Child and Family Learning Centre. Wynyard Library is also available for the community to use.

In partnership with Burnie City Council, Burnie Library will operate a pop-up library at Burnie Regional Museum from Wednesday 16 October 2024.

Library services available include the collection of library holds, book returns, daily newspapers, help to access online library services and digital support. The pop-up library is supported by Burnie Library staff.

The Burnie Regional Museum is on Little Alexander Street. Pop-up library opening hours are the same as the museum hours:

Wednesday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Thursday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Friday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

From Monday 14 October Penguin Library will be open extra hours on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm until Burnie Library reopens. Visitors to Penguin Library can access library collections, return items, pick up holds, and use computers and printing facilities.

Parents, carers and children can join Library Storytime and Rock and Rhyme at the Burnie Child and Family Learning Centre, 36 Thorne Street, Burnie. Storytime will run on Monday 14, 21 and 28 October from 10:00 am – 10:30 am. Rock and Rhyme will run on Friday 18 and 25 October from 10:00 am – 10:30 am.

Wynyard Library is open Monday to Thursday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, Friday 10:00 am – 5:30 pm and Saturday 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Burnie Library is currently closed due to water damage and is expected to reopen to the community in early November.
