Unearth the mysteries of Lutruwita/Tasmania’s past when the lights go out in the iconic State Library and Archives Building.
Libraries Tasmania presents Stories After Dark. One mesmerising night filled with sound, art, light, storytelling and performance bringing Tasmania’s archives and heritage collections alive.
The extensive program includes:
- Tasmanian Archives inspired contemporary installation space, Youth ARC Dark Carpark, where young Tasmanian artists respond to artefacts from the archives through performance, sound and animation.
- Beats and Bands from the Archives – relive your hazy memories of Hobart’s 70s and 80s music scene in the State Library and Archives Reading Room.
- Fancy Dress: From tutus to cosplay exhibition brought to life through cosplay artists and the Tasmanian Time Travellers in the Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts
- Let Me Tell you a Story – storytelling through poetry, letters, puppetry, readings and spoken word featuring performers including:
- Robert Jarman – Chances Are
- Jane Longhurst – reading Robbie Arnott’s Limberlost
- Nicole Smith presenting pulana luwa pulingina puwinya (Three Stars to Welcome Spring) – a bilingual story in palawa kani/English
- Edith Perrenot and Julia Drouhin – Le Petit Prince

Stories After Dark is a free, all ages, family-friendly event:
