Raise your Tasmanian Voice: help celebrate the stories that shape us

State Library and Archives of Tasmania is inviting people across Lutruwita/Tasmania to ‘Raise your Tasmanian Voice’ by nominating the writers, storytellers and creative voices who have shaped who we are, the places we call home and the stories we carry with us.

The four-week nomination campaign opens on Monday 5 October and will contribute to the addition of two new voices to Tasmanian Voices: the writers who make us.

Launched in 2025, Tasmanian Voices honours 21 literary figures who have shaped Tasmania’s identity and continue to inspire, challenge and connect communities.

Libraries Tasmania Executive Director Patrick Gregory said this year’s campaign gives Tasmanians a direct role in recognising new voices.

‘Every Tasmanian has a story about the words, books, writers, ideas or storytellers that have stayed with them. This campaign is a chance to nominate those who have influenced you, and the way you think about Tasmania.’

People are encouraged to think broadly and nominate the voices that matter to them, including novelists, journalists, historians, poets, storytellers, publishers, playwrights and film producers. Nominees may have lived in Lutruwita/Tasmania or reflected Tasmania in their work and may be living or deceased.

Mr Gregory said nominations were an opportunity to recognise the depth, diversity and richness of Tasmanian storytelling.

‘Some of the most influential voices are household names. Others are less familiar but have made an equally important contribution to our cultural life. We invite people to nominate voices from every part of Lutruwita/Tasmania, including regional, Aboriginal, multicultural and under-represented communities.’

Tasmanian Voices also celebrates Nipaluna/Hobart’s status as a UNESCO City of Literature highlighting the important role that storytelling, literature and creative expression play in Tasmania’s identity and cultural life.

Nominations close at 11:59 pm on Sunday 1 November 2026.  The two new Tasmanian Voices will be selected from public nominations and announced in December 2026.
