Questacon’s Byte Wise exhibition comes to Tasmania’s libraries

Exhibition Details

A free interactive exhibition will tour 18 Libraries Tasmania locations from 17 June to 18 September. Children, teens and families can explore maths and computer science through hands-on activities.

Developed by Questacon, the National Science and Technology Centre, Byte Wise will visit libraries across Tasmania, including Queenstown, Smithton, Devonport, Ulverstone, Oatlands and Sorell.

“We are excited to host Questacon’s exhibition across our libraries,” said Angela Sferco, Children and Young People Services Coordinator at Libraries Tasmania.

Byte Wise offers a fun, hands-on way for children, families and educators to explore maths and computer science. Visitors can try activities such as counting in binary, cracking codes and testing sorting algorithms.”

“Ideal for students aged 10 to 15, the exhibition sparks curiosity, builds confidence and helps demystify how computers work.”

  • Try codebreaking, geometry and logic puzzles.
  • Find the most efficient way to sort objects.
  • Explore ideas such as algorithms, binary, image representation, data compression, encryption and cryptography.
  • Measure pi by testing the relationship between a circle’s circumference and diameter.
