A new youth space at Ravenswood Library will be opened by City of Launceston Mayor, Matthew Garwood on Thursday 21 November 2024 at 3:30 pm.
The new youth space provides a fun area for visitors to meet friends and relax. It was created in collaboration with young people who regularly visit the library.
The space has been named ‘Crazy Corner’ by local young people and includes a lounge area, sensory furniture, gaming chairs and computers.
“This is a space where local young people can connect in a relaxing, safe space. Everyone is welcome at the library!” said Simon Jones, Director Library Network at Libraries Tasmania.
A key feature of the space is a 7-metre square mural created by 30 young people working alongside artist James Cowan of KreamArt. The mural was created over two days as the participants learned mural painting techniques.
The youth space was funded by Friends of the Library Launceston and developed in collaboration with Libraries Tasmania. It is part of a commitment to encourage young Tasmanians to visit and enjoy their local library.
All Tasmanians can join their local library. Joining the library gives you access to thousands of books, e-books and other digital resources such as movies, music and magazines. All for free.
There are 46 public libraries across Tasmania.
Membership is free and it’s quick and easy to join in person or online. Visit
