Libraries Tasmania is celebrating 26Ten Week from Monday 23 to Friday 27 October.
This year’s theme, Making numbers work for you, aims to raise awareness of how improving everyday maths can help with daily tasks such as paying bills and shopping.
To celebrate this year’s 26Ten Week, Tasmania’s public libraries are hosting a statewide Supermarket Challenge. To enter, visit your local library and estimate the cost of shopping items displayed.
Every Supermarket Challenge entry goes into the draw to win a prize pack that includes the bundle of shopping items and a $25 Woolworths voucher. There is a prize pack to be won at each of Tasmania’s 45 public lending libraries. Entries close at 5:00 pm on Monday 30 October 2023.
Libraries Tasmania proudly hosts and supports 26Ten by championing the importance of adult literacy and numeracy, providing free programs and services, and advocating for lifelong learning.
“As a 26Ten member, Libraries Tasmania is committed to providing Tasmanian adults with support. The wonderful staff and volunteers at our public libraries offer accessible and free opportunities to help Tasmanians build their confidence to succeed at everyday life,” said Sue McKerracher, Executive Director of Libraries Tasmania.
“Over the past year, 520 adults have developed their literacy and numeracy skills through Libraries Tasmania, with more than 25 per cent demonstrating increased skills and 30 per cent achieving learning goals.”
“Volunteering is a great way to get involved and support fellow Tasmanians. Express your interest through our online form or reach out to your local library.”
26Ten is Tasmania’s statewide adult literacy and numeracy strategy. 26Ten works with a network of organisations and individuals. The network raises awareness about adult literacy and numeracy, and provide learning opportunities.
