Libraries Tasmania is dreaming with eyes open this CBCA Book Week

Media Release

17 August 2022

Libraries around Tasmania are eagerly opening their costume chests, dusting off their
favourite books and sharpening their colouring pencils for the 2022 Children’s Book
Council of Australia’s (CBCA) Children’s Book Week.

Libraries Tasmania will be celebrating the theme – ‘Dreaming with eyes open…’
from Saturday 20 August until Friday 26 August 2022. Book Week celebrates a
diverse shortlist of stories from Australia’s many cultures.

This year’s shortlisted titles celebrate Tasmania’s diverse communities including First
Australians’, refugees’, and first-generation Australians’ voices. Readers can borrow
print copies or eBooks and eAudiobooks of the shortlisted titles from the Libraries
Tasmania catalogue and at their local library.

Library staff around the state such as at Wynyard Library and Kingston Library are
encouraging children and adults alike to get involved and celebrate Children’s Book
Week
events by dressing up, singing songs and listening to stories.

A statewide Libraries Tasmania ‘Design a Bookmark’ competition closing 26 August
will spark imaginations, with the winning designs professionally printed and
distributed to all Tasmanian libraries. The competition is open to children aged from
4 to 18 years.
