On Wednesday 27 May at 12:00 pm, libraries, schools and communities across Lutruwita/Tasmania will come together to share a story, celebrating the joy of reading and the power of literacy.
Libraries Tasmania is proud to support National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) 2026, an initiative of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) that promotes a love of books and storytelling among children.
This year’s story features Luna Roo, whose journey highlights resilience, courage and determination. Her story offers young readers an inspiring message about finding confidence and embracing their strengths.
Across Tasmania, libraries will host shared reading sessions, welcoming children and families to experience the story together. At many libraries, families can watch a national livestream of Luna Roo read by ALIA staff.
Guest readers from across the community will bring the story to life, including local media personalities Leon Compton and Peter Gee, wildlife advocate Greg Irons, Interim Commissioner for Children and Young People Ros Cornish, local Mayors, local sporting personalities and library staff.
‘National Simultaneous Storytime is a wonderful celebration of reading. It’s an opportunity to share stories that inspire young people and highlight the power of literacy across our communities,’ said Simon Jones, Director Library Network Libraries Tasmania.
