Get confident, connected and safe online in Get Online Week

Media Release
15 October 2025

Libraries Tasmania is helping Tasmanians build confidence in the digital world with free one-to-one support and activities as part of Get Online Week.

Running from 20 to 26 October, Get Online Week is a national initiative by Good Things Foundation Australia, aimed at helping people of all ages feel safer, more confident, and better connected online.

Across Tasmania, public libraries will host a range of free digital activities to help people build confidence in the online world:

  • Personalised one-to-one sessions on how to use Libraries Tasmania’s online resources on your own device.
  • Help accessing free eBooks, audiobooks, films, newspapers, magazines, music and language learning tools.
  • Information sessions on spotting scams, protecting personal information online and managing emails safely.

Kathleen Priestly, Director Library Network, said digital inclusion is more important than ever.

“Whether you need help setting up a device, exploring online resources or learning about apps, Libraries Tasmania is here to help – ensuring no one is left behind in our increasingly connected world,” Ms Priestly said.

“There’s a whole world online – and our library staff are ready to support adults navigating it – for free. Libraries Tasmania offers free Wi-Fi and digital skills support at 45 public libraries across the state.

“With a free Libraries Tasmania membership, all Tasmanians can enjoy 24/7 access to online content – anytime, anywhere.”

Everyone who takes part in a Get Online Week activity will go into the draw to win a free eReader.

Register for a Get Online Week activity on Eventbrite, or ask staff at your local library.
