Families looking for ways to keep children and young people busy these spring school holidays will find plenty to enjoy at Libraries Tasmania.
Free activities are happening in libraries across the state with something for every age and interest.
Children can pirouette with ballet-inspired Storytimes, get crafting in colourful spring activities and building in LEGO challenges. Young people can also join writing groups, gaming sessions, chess clubs and youth meetups.
Director Library Network Simon Jones said, ‘As well as traditional craft and children’s activities, we also run a wide range of events for young people who want to try something different. These holidays we’re supporting not-to-be-missed hologram workshops run by the Centre of Excellence for Transformative Meta-Optical Systems (TMOS).’
These exciting events are only part of what Libraries Tasmania offers with resources and programs available throughout the year for babies, children, young people, adults and families.
Gaming with new friends, exploring technology or spending time in a quiet, welcoming and safe place catching up with friends are ways in which everyone can learn and connect with their community.
“Our school holiday activities are designed to encourage a lifelong love of libraries and all they offer, for free,” said Mr Jones. “A visit to the library is a great fit for wet weather days or some downtime after a playground visit with a healthy supply of books, fun events and other resources like DVDs.”
For those wanting some home-based quality time Libraries Tasmania membership unlocks age-appropriate and free e-resources. StoryBox Hub is available through the eLibrary featuring hundreds of Australian children’s stories read by talented storytellers. Families can watch the read-aloud videos anytime, anywhere day or night.
