National Family History Month is a nationwide celebration of the stories, mysteries and secrets that shape who we are. Start your journey with Libraries Tasmania and you can:

  • Find hidden stories in old records and family files.
  • Celebrate the rich and diverse histories of Tasmanian families.
  • Take a behind-the-scenes tour of our archive collections.
  • Connect with others who share your passion for family history.

Libraries Tasmania is hosting a full program of events across Tasmania’s public libraries and the State Library and Archives of Tasmania.

Book on Eventbrite (link also in menu). All events are free and everyone is welcome (subject to capacity).

What’s happening in National Family History Month?

The vibrant program is packed with free talks, family history workshops, and behind-the-scenes tours of our treasured archives.

Our talks will take you on a world adventure – from quiet Southport to bustling China; a dramatic kidnapping from Sydney to India; from ASIO agents to well-known gardener Peter Cundall; and from the Philippines to Tasmania’s Preminghana.

Celebrate the life and legacy of Aboriginal Elder, Aunty Ida West – the first Tasmanian Aborigine to write an autobiography, in a tribute led by her family.

Whether you are a seasoned history buff or just curious, this is your chance to unlock the fascinating stories that connect us all.
