3.3 Other prioritisation factors

Considering the above collection type and format priorities, further prioritisation assessment is undertaken that evaluates:

  • irreplaceability (eg rare books, unpublished manuscripts)
  • uniqueness
  • historical value
  • cultural value (eg Glover artwork in History Room, artworks in the Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts)
  • monetary value
  • value to ongoing government business
  • impact of losing information content
  • impact of losing a valuable artefact (even if the item is available in digital form)
  • items that do not belong to us (eg Van Diemen’s Land Company records, Mercury images, items on loan to us)
  • additional obligatory requirements
  • records critical to managing our collections, eg documented agreements for State archives up to 2006 (records since then are in Content Manager).
