In Kate’s latest talk she will re-introduce some old characters, and introduce us to new ones, as she explores the lives of 5 of the Huston sisters; Amelia, Annie, Kate, Sarah Francis and Mary Louise. Daughters of Dr George Francis Huston, Superintendent of the New Norfolk Insane Asylum, and wives to some of the most prominent men of Hobart and surrounds (including the reprobate Curzon Allport).
Experience their loves, losses, scandals, jealousies, betrayals and joys as we weave our way through the lives of these rather remarkable women.
Kate Vermey is a member of the State Libraries and Archives team and has conducted in depth research into members of the Allport family and their “off shoots.” Kate has degrees in History and Early Years Education and enjoys sharing the stories of people of the past. Her previous talks can be found on the Libraries Tasmania YouTube and Sound Cloud channels.
