Tasmania Reads 2026

Reading connects us all: be part of the story!

Libraries Tasmania is celebrating Tasmania Reads from Sunday 22 to Saturday 28 March 2026.

Tasmania Reads is an annual week-long celebration of reading and stories in all forms, now in its fourth year.

The week is filled with fun reading inspired events and activities for all ages at libraries, schools and organisations across Tasmania.

Be part of the story by attending an event, including author talks, book launches, children’s storytime, pop-ups at community events and more. You can even create and run your own event or activity.

We have an exciting line-up of free events at libraries across Tasmania. We’re also partnering with local organisations and businesses for other events.

Highlights include:

  • Our Island Stories: A series of panels and activities hosted by libraries across the state where readers and writers can discuss the stories that have shaped their lives. This series will include sessions facilitated by award-winning Tasmanian podcaster Jacq Ellem that explore the many ways stories can be created and shared.
  • StoryWalks: Led by Tasmanian Aboriginal writers and storytellers, story walks will take place around the state, including at the new pop-up We Love Country StoryWalk in Devonport and Tazzie the Turbo Chook StoryWalk in Kingston.
  • Reading Culture Forum: Presented in collaboration with the University of Tasmania, this forum on Monday 23 March brings together a panel of researchers and community leaders – including the Head of Australia Reads, Anna Burkey – to examine the question: How can we grow reading culture in Tasmania?
  • State Library and Archives of Tasmania Zine Fair: Celebrating grass roots publishing and marking the end of Tasmania Reads for 2026. Apply to have a table or come along and discover new stories.

More Libraries Tasmania and partner events will be added soon.
