History note:
Isabella Lewis was born in New South Wales in 1798, the daughter of Captain Neil MacKellar of the New South Wales Corps and Sarah Cooley. She arrived in Van Diemen's Land in 1816, on the occasion of her marriage to Richard Lewis, an auctioneer and merchant who arrived in Hobart Town in 1815. Richard Lewis founded a commercial and shipping business later known as R. Lewis & Sons.
