Nos. 8-10, 13, 19, 20 signed 'W.B. Gould, pinxt' ; all undated. Unsigned sketches attributed to William Buelow Gould.

Individual works have no titles or species identification within the sketchbook. Identification of fish is from numbered list accompanying the sketchbook.

Has blank pages between pages 35-41. Page 42 has preliminary pencil sketch of Aseroe rubra. Last 20 pages of sketchbook are blank.

History note:
Paintings were probably completed at the request of Dr. William De Little to whom Gould was assigned as a house servant during his term as a convict on Sarah Island (Macquarie Harbour).
