Framed in wooden veneered frame.

Inscribed in ink on backing in Sir William Crowther's hand 'Austin's Ferry by GTWB Boyes, c.1830-40. Before the making of the Bridge at Bridgewater this was the principal Crossing of the Derwent to the settled parts of the Island in the Midlands and to Launceston'.

Summary:
The subject is the Roseneath (formerly Baltonsburgh) Ferry begun by James Austin and continued by his nephews, Solomon and Josiah. The Inn stands in the middle distance on the right.
Condition:
Condition on accession: Slightly faded. Frame is chipped at corners. Masking tape on backing. Removed from frame 07/05/2008.
