"Aladdin" as a Tasmanian government powder hulk
This photograph, taken around 1885, shows the whaling ship Aladdin. The vessel led a storied life: built in Portsmouth in 1825 and originally named HMS Mutine, she later worked offshore as a whaler out of Hobart. In her final years, Aladdin was anchored in the Derwent River, serving as a powder store.
Libraries Tasmania holds a diverse collection of materials related to the Aladdin, including logs from her whaling voyages and various works of art.
