Church registrations
Introduction
We hold many records on behalf of churches in Tasmania. Most baptism, wedding and burial records are not online, but some indexes are.
What is online?
- An index of the church registers we hold
- Launceston church registers held by the Launceston Library
Some church register records from before 1838 are in births, deaths and marriage registration records.
What else is there?
To find church records in the archives, search by agency. Put the name of the church, or just part of the name, in the agency field. For other records, please contact the church directly.
The Catholic Church keeps all their records but has allowed us to have copies of some of them.

The only records of births before 1838 were baptism records. See our Births, deaths and marriages registration guide.
