Patient records of the Royal Derwent Hospital

Introduction

The Hospital was created to provide in-patient treatment and rehabilitation of mentally ill and mentally handicapped persons, including treatment of alcoholics.

It has been known by various names throughout its history. In 1968 the Lachlan Park Hospital, as it was then called, was merged with the Millbrook Rise Psychopathic Hospital to form the Royal Derwent Hospital, the name it would retain until its closure in 2000.

Case Books

The patient files (HSD284) contain a mixture of clinical notes and administrative correspondence (often about the payment of accounts). The case books contain purely clinical information. These may contain copies of the admission papers (HSD285). See Admission registers, 1830-1954 (HSD247) or Dianne Cassidy’s work for admission numbers.
